Right to Life

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "I believe that abortion rights are human rights."  Source

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  We must "pass federal laws to preempt state efforts that functionally limit access to reproductive health care," and "guarantee reproductive health coverage as part of all health coverage." Says she will wear a Planned Parenthood scarf to her inauguration if elected President.  Source  Source

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "Congress should pass new federal laws that protect access to reproductive care from right-wing ideologues in the states. Federal laws that ensure real access to birth control and abortion care for all women. Federal laws that will stand no matter what the Supreme Court does."  Source

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

iVoterGuide Note:  No. Voted against S. 311.  Source

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

(Did not answer)

What changes should be made to the tax code?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Warren supports a "wealth tax." "A 2% tax would apply to wealth between $50 million and $1 billion, while net worth above $1 billion would face a 6% levy. Warren’s Excessive Lobbying Tax aims to deter corporations and trade organizations from influencing government through high spending. It would tax firms that spend between $500,000 and $1 million on lobbying at a rate of 35%, which increases to a 60% rate on firms that spend above $1 million and 75% on firms that spend above $5 million. The 7% corporate tax would apply to every dollar above $100 million that a company reports in profits. The tax would exist in conjunction with the overall corporate tax rate, which Warren hopes will raise $1 trillion over the next 10 years. Social security plan would be financed by a 14.8% contribution requirement on individual wages above $250,000 as well as a 14.8% contribution requirement on net investment income for individuals making more than $250,000 and families making more than $400,000. Warren’s policy calls for an increase in taxes on guns from 10% to 30%, while ammunition would be taxed at a rate of 50%."  Source

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Warren would "increase Social Security benefits immediately by $200 a month –– $2,400 a year –– for every current and future Social Security beneficiary in America. Asking the top 2% of families to contribute their fair share to the program."  Source

What is your position on the minimum wage?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "I have already committed to requiring federal contractors to pay workers a minimum wage of $15 an hour."  Source

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Warren "lays out a nine-point eligibility test for even considering a trade deal that is by design extremely stringent. The conditions are worth quoting in full since they are detailed and specific but also notable for the fact that the United States does not meet the criteria: • Recognize and enforce the core labor rights of the International Labour Organization, like collective bargaining and the elimination of child labor. • Uphold internationally recognized human rights, as reported in the Department of State’s Country Reports on Human Rights, including the rights of indigenous people, migrant workers, and other vulnerable groups. • Recognize and enforce religious freedom as reported in the State Department’s Country Reports. • Comply with minimum standards of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. • Be a party to the Paris Climate agreement and have a national plan that has been independently verified to put the country on track to reduce its emissions consistent with the long-term emissions goals in that agreement. • Eliminate all domestic fossil fuel subsidies. • Ratify the Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions. • Comply with any tax treaty they have with the United States and participate in the OECD’s Base Erosion and Profit Shifting project to combat tax evasion and avoidance. • Not appear on the Department of Treasury monitoring list of countries that merit attention for their currency practices."  Source

Religious Liberty

Government should not discriminate against individuals, organizations, or business owners who affirm marriage as between one man and one woman.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "I would fight to pass the Do No Harm Act to return the Religious Freedom Restoration Act to its original goal of protecting religious minorities and further clarify that this law can’t be used to harm LGBTQ+ people."  Source

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "Worries that religious beliefs are being used as weapons."  Source

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "Worries that religious beliefs are being used as weapons."  Source

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Warren supports Medicare for All, which would mandate a public health care program.  Source

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "Health care is a basic human right – and we fight for basic human rights. Elizabeth won’t stop fighting until everyone is covered and no one goes broke paying a medical bill or filling a prescription. We need Medicare for All." "My plan for health care reverses the Trump Administration's sabotage of our health care, allows everyone in America to choose a Medicare for All option for little or no cost, and cuts costs for families before moving us into full Medicare for All - all in my first term."  Source  Source

I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Yes. "Money should go directly to the providers." "People like their doctors, their nurses, their pharmacists. Private insurance companies make their profits by saying "no" to the care you need from these providers. That's why we need #MedicareForAll."  Source  Source

National Security

What is the best way to maintain peace and protect national security?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Warren voiced "a long-held skepticism about U.S. military intervention, in which she has vowed to reduce defense spending and withdraw troops from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq...."  Source

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

(Did not answer)

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "The border wall isn’t about security, or making America safer. It’s a monument to hate and division, and I won’t support it. We are a better country than that."  Source

Children covered by DACA should be granted legal citizenship.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "I’ll push for a far-reaching legislative fix that provides a fair but achievable path to citizenship for them."  Source

How would you re-write immigration laws?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  We must: "Decriminalize migration and refocus enforcement on serious criminal activity; separate law enforcement from immigration enforcement to strengthen our communities; remake CBP and ICE in a way that reflects our values; end unnecessary detention; eliminate private detention facilities; establish professional, independent Article I immigration courts; eliminate expedited removal and provide due process; reject exclusionary policies based on race, religion and nationality; raise the refugee cap; affirm asylum protections; expand legal immigration; make it easier for those eligible for citizenship to naturalize; repeal the 3- and 10-year bars; limit the penalties considered for status determinations; reduce the family reunification backlog; and create an Office of New Americans."  Source

How would you improve the quality of education in the United States?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "I believe in America’s public schools. It’s time to give our schools the support they need to ensure that every student has access to a meaningful, high-quality public education." "Funding for public K-12 education is both inadequate and inequitable." "Make a series of legislative and administrative changes to achieve five objectives: Fund schools adequately and equitably so that all students have access to a great public education. Renew the fight against segregation and discrimination in our schools. Provide a warm, safe, and nurturing school climate for all our kids. Treat teachers and staff like the professionals they are. Stop the privatization and corruption of our public education system."  Source

I support charter schools.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  “Money for public schools should stay in public schools, not go anywhere else..."  Source

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "Our laws don't consistently protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. It's past time to change that—starting by passing the Equality Act."  Source

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Warren grew up in Methodist church.  Source

Criminal Justice

I support the death penalty.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "I oppose the death penalty. A Warren administration would reverse Trump’s decision to move forward with federal executions, and Congress should abolish the death penalty entirely."  Source

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Warren supports repealing the 1994 crime bill that set mandatory minimum sentences for many nonviolent drug offenses.  Source

How would you address the overcrowding of jails?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Warren's Press Secretary says, "It is a false choice to suggest a tradeoff between safety and mass incarceration. We should spend our budgets on community services that lift people up, not imprisonment. That's how we can de-carcerate and make our communities safer..."  Source

2nd Amendment

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "The militarization of our schools does not improve school safety."  Source

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "As president, I will immediately take executive action to rein in an out-of-control gun industry — and to hold both gun dealers and manufacturers accountable for the violence promoted by their products. I will break the NRA’s stranglehold on Congress by passing sweeping anti-corruption legislation and eliminating the filibuster so that our nation can no longer be held hostage by a small group of well-financed extremists who have already made it perfectly clear that they will never put the safety of the American people first. "I will send Congress comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation. I will sign it into law within my first 100 days. And we will revisit this comprehensive legislation every single year — adding new ideas and tweaking existing ones based on new data — to continually reduce the number of gun deaths in America." Legislation would include: requiring background checks; reporting on multiple purchases; raising the minimum age [of gun ownership] to be at least 18 years of age; prosecute gun traffickers; revoke licenses for gun dealers who break the rules; investigate the NRA and its cronies; create a federal licensing system; require universal background checks; increase taxes on gun manufacturers; establish a real waiting period; cap firearms purchases; pass a new federal assault weapons ban; ban high-capacity ammunition magazines; prohibit accessories that make weapons more deadly; pass extreme risk protection laws; prohibit anyone convicted of a hate crime from owning a gun; improve the Gun-Free School Zones Act; repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act; hold gun manufacturers strictly liable for the harm they cause through a federal private right of action; strengthen the ATF; repeal the provision of law that prevents the Consumer Product Safety Commission from regulating the safety of firearms and their accessories; tighten oversight for gun dealers; and hold gun industry CEOs personally accountable. We would also revoke rules that lower the standards for purchasing a gun, including overturning Trump-era policies enabling 3-D printed guns, regulating 80% receivers as firearms, and reversing the ATF ruling that allows a shooter to convert a pistol to a short-barreled rifle using pistol braces."  Source

Other Important Issues

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "I believe it’s time to start a national, full-blown conversation about reparations. I support the bill in the House to support a congressional panel of experts so that our nation can do what’s right & begin to heal."  Source

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "We need to call out white nationalism for what it is—domestic terrorism. It is a threat to the United States, and we've seen its devastating toll this weekend. And we need to call out the president himself for advancing racism and white supremacy."  Source

The United States should not have withdrawn from the Paris Climate Agreement.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "By leaving the Paris Climate Agreement, Trump is ceding American leadership and giving away American jobs in the clean energy economy of the future. We should be leading the fight to end the climate crisis—and I've got a plan for that."  Source

I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  Voted "No" Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act (S.1).  Source

The Electoral College should be abolished.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "Get rid of the electoral college."  Source

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

(Did not answer)

iVoterGuide Note:  "Democracy hangs on the idea that those who get the most votes wins. Politicians are supposed to compete over how many voters they can persuade, not how many they can disqualify or demoralize."  Source
