Right to Life

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I believe that the best legislative model for abortion is the Georgia heartbeat law. The law provides a standard that can be supported by all Americans, regardless of faith. Further, it shows our commitment to the success of both mother and child by providing financial supports and adoption assistance.

Economy

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

I will protect the Social Security benefits you worked for your whole life. I will not allow a reduction in benefits or coverage because many of our seniors rely on their social security income. The best way to protect social security is to make sure that the system is run efficiently, reduce waste and abuse, and balance the federal budget.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Government waste, fraud, and abuse can provide us with some of the savings we need. We should also continue to find ways to lower our overseas military costs without reducing our overall military strength.

Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?

Paying off current student debt through taxation unfairly penalizes every worker who already paid off their debt or who never took loans in the first place. I will not support this unfair taxation and punishment. Our methods for easing the burden of student loan debt should, instead, focus around refinance support, a stronger job market with better wages, and reforms to reduce the cost of future college attendance.

Religious Liberty

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Separation of church and state (which is not in the Constitution) should not be used to deviate from the establishment clause in the Constitution. The purpose of the establishment clause is to protect religion from the corrupting influence of government. Religious adherents must be allowed to worship (within the bounds of law) without being restrained or controlled by the government. This does not mean there cannot be a connection between government and religion. It means that any connection that exists must not be either punitive or coercive.

Healthcare

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Disagree

I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

The current state of healthcare (with the individual mandate removed) maintains low-income subsidies and pre-existing condition coverage while having an increase in the number of plans available. We need to focus on making sure that overall costs in these new plans continues to go down. Making hospital bills simpler and having prices known up-front will help put pressure on providers to lower costs. I also believe we still need to have reforms that lower the costs of malpractice insurance. For reducing drug costs, we need to work with manufacturers to ensure that patent protected drugs are being sold for similar prices in the US and overseas. In many cases a company will sell the exact same drug cheaper overseas, leaving Americans to foot most of the R&D bill. Fixing this and increasing the number of FDA approved generic drugs will help lower pharmaceutical costs.

National Security

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Agree

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

The United States must pursue a policy of border security at home and regional stability abroad. Domestically, we must be able to enforce our immigration laws and know who is entering the country. We must also make sure that our intelligence agencies are coordinating on threat detection. Overseas, it is important for us to focus on stability. We must continue to develop alliances with countries in the Middle East and seek to end ongoing conflicts in Syria and Libya. Outside of Iran, the other nations in the region have proven they are open to economic and diplomatic interaction.

Immigration

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Agree

Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.

Neutral

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

I am unsure of the intent of the question. Anyone who is not under a terrorist watch list, and is willing to follow our immigration law and process, should be allowed to immigrate. Other than for national security concerns, we should not discriminate on who is allowed to immigrate. With that said, the overall number of immigrants we can accept per year must be tied to realistic measures of economic health and unemployment. Our domestic workforce needs to be strong, with recent immigrants successfully finding work, before we can accept new immigrants. Immigration rates must take unemployment and wage growth into consideration.

Education

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Neutral

Values

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Neutral

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

Faith teaches us that there is always something greater than ourselves. Service to family, community, and God helps keep us grounded and focused on the things that matter most. I believe that if more of our public servants followed that teaching of humility, our country would be better off.

Qualifications

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

The best supporting evidence for the previous question would be my official positions stated at www.voteacosta.com

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

My father is a 25 year airforce veteran and our whole family is very pro-military. I will always support our veterans and vote in favor of improved coverage and care.

Criminal Justice

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Agree

2nd Amendment

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Our current ban on fully automatic weapons and our use of the FBI NICS background check is sufficient. Additional protections need to be focused at the school and police level by providing better training, equipment, and mental health support.

Other Important Issues

I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

Strongly Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Neutral

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

My three areas of focus will be: Economy (reducing middle and low income bracket taxes, tax breaks specifically targeted for small businesses) Education (support for after school education, vocational programs, and community colleges) Healthcare (reducing medical plan costs, protecting pre-existing condition coverage, lowering the cost of prescription and generic drugs)

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

I believe that racism is a societal concern that, often times, prevents us from coming together to help up-lift low income communities. We have to be able to address bias without politics distracting us from real solutions. Strengthening schools, families, and job markets are the best ways to reduce racial inequities.
