Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
To save the life of the mother and in cases of rape and incest.
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
Social Security is a sacred commitment we have made to our seniors. We must protect it for those in or near retirement and strengthen it so it remains available for future generations. Solutions must meet these core principles: Social Security should not be “privatized,” benefits should be protected, the retirement age should not be raised, and taxes should not be increased.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Hoosier families sit at their kitchen tables and make tough choices with their budgets, and they expect Congress to do the same. The first piece of legislation I filed in the House was a balanced budget amendment, and I have voted for similar legislation numerous times. Getting our debt under control requires both economic growth and long-term spending reforms, and I will continue working with my colleagues to restore fiscal sanity and change the way Washington operates.
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
I was the first person in my family to graduate from college, and it took me ten years to pay off my student loans. I know the heavy burden of student debt, and I believe we need to find innovative solutions to lower the cost of college and expand alternatives like vocational training. However, the answer is not a massive, taxpayer-funded handout to pay off existing student loans.
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The First Amendment protects the religious freedom of every American. It is vital that we defend these rights, including by protecting preventing the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortion. That is why I have fought to preserve and strengthen conscience protections for pro-life Americans.
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Obamacare has failed to ensure Hoosiers have access to quality, affordable health care. That’s why I led the charge to permanently repeal three costly Obamacare taxes, including the job-killing medical device tax, health insurance tax, and Cadillac tax. It’s clear Americans pay too much for health care and prescription drugs, and I’m committed to finding commonsense solutions to lower costs without limiting patient choice or stifling innovative research to find new cures.
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
We need to rebuild our military to ensure it remains the strongest fighting force in the world, ready to deploy anywhere a threat arises and equipped to defeat any enemy. We also need to stand strongly with Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East.
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Our immigration system is broken, and any solution must be centered on securing our borders and enforcing our nation’s laws. America is a nation of immigrants, and I am grateful for the many positive contributions immigrants make in our communities, but we must end the influx of illegal immigration that has overwhelmed federal agencies and resulted in a national security and humanitarian crisis on the southern border.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I live to serve His mission every day.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I have never wavered in my commitment to the American values of faith, freedom, and family. I have consistently voted to cut taxes and spending, strengthen our national security, support our troops and veterans, protect the sanctity of life, and defend religious freedom.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
As a lifelong Hoosier, born and raised in South Bend, I have spent my life serving others. After my husband Dean and I returned from living in Romania for four years as missionaries, I decided to run for office to serve my fellow Hoosiers. Now I represent Indiana’s 2nd District in Congress, and it is an honor to fight for our shared Hoosier values and fight for families, workers, farmers, small business owners, veterans, and everyone across northern Indiana.
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment right to bear arms. In order to keep our communities safe, we should focus on enforcing the laws we already have and addressing gaps in our mental health system, not adding new restrictions on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens.
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
The Electoral College should be abolished.
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
(1) The Dignity for Aborted Children Act would build on Indiana’s law requiring dignified burial or cremation of aborted fetal remains, including strong reporting requirements to hold abortion providers accountable. (2) The Stop for School Buses Act would improve the safety of children by studying ways to prevent illegal passing of stopped school buses. (3) The BENES Act would simplify Medicare enrollment, eliminate gaps in coverage, and help prevent late-enrollment penalties.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
I strongly condemn bigotry and hate in all its forms, and I believe racism, white supremacy, and anti-Semitism have no place in our society.
