Right to Life

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

No Answer

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Disagree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I believe that all life is sacred. I also believe that our Lord and Savior emphasized compassion and empathy. There are cases, particularly in situations involving domestic violence or any type of serious injury to the mother, where carrying the child to full term would subject both to painful disability or medical issues the rest of their lives. I cant imagine what facing that decision is like and my faith taught me that I have no right to judge the difficult decision that woman would make, for only God can grant eternal judgement. While cliche, I do believe my views can generally be summed up as keeping abortion safe, legal, and extremely rare. I also am a strong proponent of addressing the societal pressures that contribute to abortions, like ending stigma toward unwed or young mothers, providing access to childcare, food and clothing support services for mothers in poverty, access to family planning and contraception and fully supporting adoption/foster care services.

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Agree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

The state constitution should limit the growth of spending to the rate of population growth plus the rate of inflation.

Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Strongly Agree

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

Expanding opportunities and increasing productivity, purchasing power, and class upward mobility

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

The government should serve a minimalistic but neutral and fair role in ensuring everyone is treated fairly by the economy and given a fair opportunity to reach their god-given potential. The government isn't supposed to tip the scales toward any one person or company or industry. It is supposed to encourage free and fair competition in the market and encourage advancement, innovation, while preventing abuse and monopolizing corruption.

Religious Liberty

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Disagree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Disagree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Agree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

I would encourage more public-private partnerships between our providers, non-profits, faith-based organizations and the private sector to expand prevention and wellness services, such as mobile screenings, rural clinics, reducing environmental and aging infrastructure that harms air and water quality. I fully support the important work of our public hospitals and would fiercely oppose efforts like those of the House leadership this session to impose Medicaid funding cuts that could have forced Calhoun Liberty and weems to shutter their doors permanently.

National Security

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Islamic law (Sharia) should take precedence over national and state laws where there are Islamic majority communities in the U. S.

Strongly Disagree

I support sanctuary cities.

Strongly Disagree

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Tuition-free public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Agree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

Any teaching to children on sex education in public schools must include all contraceptive methods, and should not show preference to abstinence.

Strongly Agree

People should be allowed to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms based on "gender identity."

Strongly Agree

Parents should be the primary authority in decisions affecting their minor children.

Strongly Agree

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

Absolute power is corrosive and corrupting. While we romanticize the concept of a true selfless statesman, in most cases man is flawed and when tempted by power, often falls to this corrupting force. The Constitution, with its separation of powers, was done as a safeguard to prevent any one person from wielding absolute power.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was fortunate to have received a world class education here in our Florida public schools, including classes on the major world religions, philosophy, latin, greek, and rhetoric. In many ways, you could call me a humanist and a classicist. As far as my personal faith goes, I am an ethnic Jew who accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and saviour and was raised as a Missionary Baptist. I pray and personally reflect and practice in my everyday life and believe my that being a frequent parishioner in a church is not a prerequisite of being a good Christian. I'm by no means perfect, and only God is perfect, but I try to live my live according to his teachings of compassion, service, and hospitality.

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I am the only candidate in this race who has legislative experience, having previous served the public twice as a Legislative Aide and a Redistricting Analyst for the House Minority Office. My number one priority is providing this community competent, effective, and reassuring leadership in the months ahead and helping my constituent navigate the muck that is federal and state bureaucratic red tape. This community has been waiting long enough. They dont have time to wait while their legislator graduate from training wheels. I am ready to file all my bills, open my district office, onboard my staff, and engage my colleagues and the congressional delegation on behalf of this district on day one, if I should be given the privilege to serve.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

This election is not about Jason or I. I consider my opponent a good man who is raising a wonderful family. This election is about the folks still living in the street seven months after the hurricane. Its about the 30 percent of children living in poverty in our district, one of the highest rates in the state. Its about the senior citizens and motorists who are dying because EMS workers couldnt get to their location in time. Its about the people being Baker Acted, overdosing, or even throwing away their lives because of the despair our community is facing. I believe in my heart that both Jason and I are committed to that purpose. Yet its not about us. This election rather, is a choice in our vision for how we pick up the pieces. Jason believes we just need to rebuild. I believe that we have a chance to not just rebuild, but to reconstruct so that ALL are welcome to live here, start a business, or raise a family. A vision where no one is forgotten and our scars do not define us!

Criminal Justice

I support the death penalty.

Strongly Disagree

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Strongly Disagree

2nd Amendment

More restrictive gun control is needed to protect public safety.

Other Important Issues

People should be able to vote without photo identification.
