Right to Life

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Disagree

iVoterGuide Note:  After the voter guide was published, candidate notified iVoterGuide that the intended answer to this survey question should have been ‘Strongly Agree’.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

My hope and desire would be that abortion would not be a consideration in our society as it constitutes the taking of innocent human life. In the circumstance of physical health of the mother and/or child, where one or both are at risk and in cases of rape or incest I would defer to the family's reliance on medical professionals and their faith to make what would be a most difficult decision as to the continuation of the pregnancy.

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

Congress should pass a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Socialism provides a robust foundation for a stable economy.

Strongly Disagree

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

Unemployment is at record lows, but it is one of the most misleading statistics in today's economic environment. We need to look at the labor participation rate and understand that there are too many people that are not willing to seek employment. The government should not be discouraging people from the labor market by offering incentives to able bodied people who are not actively seeking employment. We need to encourage business by removing regulatory hurdles and lower tax rates to encourage investment and growth in business. We must always remember that government does not create jobs, it creates an environment that encourages business to create jobs.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

The greatest role the government can play in boosting the economy is to reduce its role. Supply and demand, free markets, low tax and lessened regulatory environments will stimulate private individuals and industries to invest in and grow the economy. The more government intervention there is in the economy, the greater the harm.

Religious Liberty

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or business owners because of their deeply held religious beliefs.

Strongly Agree

Governments should not penalize those who define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health insurance.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Healthcare is commodity and has been severely impacted by Government intervention that discourages free market competitiveness that reduces costs and improves service. We need to look at the models that are working and focus on reducing emergency room utilization as primary care visits. Our rural areas can be better serviced and we should look to technology for options in telemedicine and in under served areas the opportunities for nurse practitioners to fill a void in access to healthcare. They also perform an important role in preventative healthcare, which reduces the overall costs of healthcare treatments for conditions that might have been addressed earlier.

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

Mankind's nature is often a tendency of self-preservation, to pursue power and resources in a selfish manner without concern to our fellowman. Our founders were aware of these tendencies and were witnesses to the exclusion of those not of the elite class or proper family lineage to opportunity. The establishment of defined, separate and limited powers in the Constitution ensures that rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are not granted only to a select class of people.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in God our Creator and the divine inspiration of the writings contained in the Holy Bible. I believe that our sinful nature separates us from fellowship with our Creator as we continually show our inability to keep His word and commandments. Only through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and our willingness to accept Christ as our Savior is the fellowship with God and man re-established. I acknowledge my sinful nature and the need for Christ and his forgiveness in my life and the door to salvation is open and available to all. I look directly to the scriptures for my belief and worship and believe that the Word and Jesus Christ do not change with time, but is the same yesterday, today and forever. It is not enough to know the Word of God, but it is a necessity that we work to exhibit Christ in our daily lives and our interaction with our fellowman.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

My father and both paternal and maternal grandfathers were ministers of the Gospel. I was raised in a conservative household and appreciate the instillation of conservative values in my life. I am an active member of my church and community. I am a member of the Federalist Society, a lifetime member of the NRA, a Police Benevolent Association attorney and a defense attorney for small business and individuals. I currently served on the executive committee of the Tishomingo County Republican Party.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I was raised to work and have done so all my life. My early experience includes my brother and I having a lawn service while teenagers, working on the farm and working at Wal-Mart as a stockman. I attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and worked for seven years in the wholesale grocery business. I daily dealt with manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, retail and sales. I returned to school at the University of Mississippi and obtained degrees in accountancy, economics, masters in tax and a law degree. I have practiced law for the past eleven years, primarily in small business representation and defense of business and individuals. I understand the issues my clients face and know the criminal justice system in my practice. I taught business law at the University level as an adjunct professor. The combination of work experience, education, classroom experience and work ethic will greatly assist me as I work for the people of Senate District 5.
