Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I am an adopted child. My biological mother respected my life instead of aborting it and I am forever grateful for that decision. As a result, the topic of abortion is very personal and I do not view this as a political position but rather, a moral one. Life begins when a heart starts beating. It's a scientifically accepted fact. Given that life begins when there is a heartbeat, I believe that life is granted inalienable rights and those rights should be protected by law. Circumstances do and will arise where abortion is an option that must be reviewed and considered. For example, the life of the mother is in jeopardy. However, there should be due process instead of simply a "choice".

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

The history of being colonists suppressed by the unrepresentative rule of a monarch (King of England) caused the Founders to structure a government that derives its powers from the consent of the people it governs. This framework is essential to facilitate a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

My Christian faith is the core value that I draw upon and utilize every day of my life. My relationship with God is a very personable and private one that has developed and grown over the course of my life and continues to do so. I do not wish to impose my spiritual beliefs on others, nor do I appreciate others imposing their beliefs on me. This is a freedom we enjoy as American citizens.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

In my opinion, it starts with reforming entitlement programs and structuring these programs so they are a means of transitioning to employment instead of becoming a way of life. I also believe that more must be done to encourage and incentivize businesses to create programs that allow people (especially young people) to understand the dignity of working, develop skills and abilities, and understand what type of job/career will offer them personal fulfillment and individual happiness. The formula is different for everyone. Finally our school systems must also recognize the dynamic needs and future trends of the work force. Equal emphasis and encouragement must be placed on skills based programs as there are for college based programs.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

This is a very complex topic but the outline of my answer is as follows: Create a highly competitive marketplace for healthcare with a wide variety of consumer driven plans that could be customized for the individual based on the stage of life and lifestyle.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

Create a level playing field. Incentivize research and development. Encourage development of a workforce that adapts to ever-changing economic demands. Ensure businesses are not over-taxed and over-regulated.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

The combination of my 50 years of life experience and my 30 years of business experience along with my personal qualities provide me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively and productively serve the people in this office.
