Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

To save the life of the mother.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

As an Iraq War veteran, I served in on the front lines during the "Surge of Troops" ordered by President George W. Bush. I have looked radical Islamic terrorists in the eye and can say, without hesitation, the only thing they understand is being at war. We can either kill them or imprison them, there is no negotiating with these terrorists. We must fully support Israel as the only Democracy in the Middle East. We must de-certify Obama's Iran nuclear weapons deal and reimpose harsh sanctions. With President Trump in office and our military no longer being micro-managed by Obama and his Islamist-apologists, ISIS has been crushed and lost 90% of previously held territory. We must continue to unleash our military and to hunt and kill terrorists wherever they hide and plan their attacks against our nation and our allies.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

Concentrated power leads to tyranny.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe that all of mankind is imperfect but through a relationship and devotion to our Lord, Jesus Christ and his teachings, we have the best capacity to serve our fellow man and live as Christ has taught.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Co-Authored Legislation to protect religious leaders from being forced to to perform marriages that violate their religious beliefs.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

First, we need to eliminate the Obamacare program which has only served to drive up costs, bleed tax payers dollars, and deliver plans that are not serving the needs of the people. Instead of vast government control, we need more choice and options in the marketplace - which starts by removing regulations, barriers, and mandates. Allowing people to purchase health care plans across state lines is a good start. Also, allowing people or small businesses to band together in Associated Healthcare Plans will provide them the purchasing and negotiating power enjoyed by corporations and labor unions. Finally, expanding Healthcare Savings Accounts and allowing people to deduct premiums, on a pre-tax basis, would help even more people take control of their healthcare instead of putting a bureaucrat between them and their doctor.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

I am proud to have served in the Texas State Legislature for three terms when we balanced our state budgets, delivered tax relief for Texas families, limited the government, and reduced regulations. The result was our economy grew faster, created more jobs, and became the strongest in the nation following the 2008 recession. We need this same kind of commitment at the federal level to cut unnecessary/bloated bureaucracies, reduce spending, get rid of job-killing regulations (like Obamacare that harmed healthcare and job growth, or Obama's energy/EPA polcies), and promote the recent tax cut package. Under President Trump, we finally have an Executive Branch that is committed to pro-growth policies that protect our nation, reinvest in American workers, and is looking to get rid of past trade deals that put our nation at a disadvantage to countries like China. I will absolutely support the President's direction to fix these policies and put our nation first in this global economy.

What changes should be made to the tax code?

The recently passed TaxCutsandJobs Act needs to be given an opportunity to work before tweaks to the reforms they made are enacted. Our nation and more importantly, American workers, are already seeing vast improvements in wage growth, new opportunities, and more take home pay. Any adjustments that could be made should incentivize companies to further invest in workers, new products, and expanding their operations in the U.S.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

The Texas model of growth and opportunity is the best way to help expand job opportunities, raise wages, and deliver an economy that our hard-working families can take advantage of. Nationally, we have suffered under eight years of stagnation under the crushing burden of Obama's regulatory schemes and social engineering. Now, with President Trump in office we are seeing record low unemployment (including in Hispanic and Black populations), growth consistently above 3% GDP and many are predicting even larger growth due to elimination of harmful regulations and the recently passed tax cuts. I will absolutely be an unwavering supporter of the Texas model being further adopted at the national level.

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

We must recognize that Social Security is a solemn promise between the federal government and our retirees that must not be broken. For too long, Washington politicians have stolen dollars intended for Social Security and used those for other purposes. This needs to stop immediately. The best way to stabilize Social Security is by delivering the kind of job growth and increased tax base that we have not seen in well over a decade. More employment creates more dollars to preserve Social Security and gives us the opportunity to start considering ways that younger workers can invest a portion of the Social security taxes in personal investment accounts that can grow at much higher rates than what Social Security delivers. Over time, having more workers moving to personal investment accounts will lessen the long-term burden on Social Security.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I am the only candidate in the race for the 5th Congressional District who has served in the defense of our country through the military and delivered conservative solutions for our state through my six years as a State Representative.Throughout my service as a State Representative, I was noted for my hard work, commitment to principles, and, above all, an ability to deliver solutions that helped strengthen our state and deliver economic growth for our families. The growth and success our state continues to enjoy today is due to the foundations we established during the difficult years following the 2008 recession. I consistently fought to lower taxes, lighten regulations, and protect the freedom of Texans to create our own opportunities – the results have been nation-leading growth for our families and businesses. My proven record is one of pro-growth, pro-Life, Pro-2nd Amendment, and pro-religious freedom.

E-mail address and phone number for voters to reach you:

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

The voters of the 5th Congressional District expect and deserve to have a voice in the House of Representatives who is capable of delivering results and helping to strengthen their families and protect our nation. When President Bush called for a “Surge of Troops” to turn the tide in the Iraq War and stop Islamic radicals from gaining ground, I was there and bore the burden of leadership in a war zone far from our shores. Operating out of Falluja, my fellow Marines and I were stationed in an area that had long been a stronghold for insurgents. Despite the difficulties in front of us, we carried out our missions and stabilized the region, thereby denying fanatical Islamists from spreading their religion of hate and destruction. I will be an strong supporter of reinvesting in our military, national security, and caring for our veterans - my brothers in arms - when they come home from serving in the defense of America.
