What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
The Founders personally experienced the danger of giving too much power to one person and as a result recognized the need to divide power. They observed the universal truth that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Therefore, they came up with the Grand Experiment and wrote and signed the Constitution. The Constitution gave certain distinct and limited powers to each of the three branches of government and this division served to balance the government's power among the three branches.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am an evangelical born again Christian. I believe my life and faith are a testimony of my views of servant leadership. I have always tried to live my life for an audience of One (Jesus) and that has led me to put others before myself. Whether it has been working as a missionary with the world’s poor or runaway teens in Hollywood, being a living organ donor to a 5-month-old family member, or working with high school students in Bedford County and coaching youth football and basketball, my goal is to serve others and to build strong families and communities. At the end of my life all that will matter to me is to hear the Master say, "Well done my good and faithful servant"
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Very Conservative
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
I am pro-life and have participated in the March for Life, Life Chains, Rally for Life and financially support our local pro-life organization. My work with Habitat for Humanity demonstrates my belief that we must encourage people to help themselves and to walk alongside them as they try to make a better life for themselves and their families. I am a member of the Republican party and the local Republican committee. I support lowering taxes and eliminating wasteful government spending. I support small government principles and free market economics. I believe the government does not create jobs but fosters an environment where businesses create jobs. I believe we need to protect our constitutional rights and religious liberties from those who wish to take them away. I fully support the second amendment and will oppose any laws that infringe upon it. My public position on these topics can be seen at my website www.jrwinck.com.

Additional comment from candidate:
I am a candidate because I have a strong sense of God's calling to statesmanship. I am running for public office because of our children. I believe I am accountable to the next generation to preserve and protect the rights and liberties that are entrusted to us. I desire to see the country my sons inherit to be blessed by God. I want a nation and state that are prosperous and thriving both spiritually and financially. I believe that most of the political leaders have lost their way and refuse to bend their knee and ask for God's guidance. Leaders lead by example and must return to the ideal of public service. Unfortunately a culture of greed has created too many elected officials who consider themselves public employees collecting a paycheck. Leaders must be prepared to make personal sacrifices. Therefore, I will not be collecting a pension or pre diem and I am term limiting myself. I will also fight for lower taxes and the reduction of wasteful government spending.
