What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
The Founders recognized the saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, so our system of government was created based on this notion that self-interest must not be allowed to go unchecked. By ensuring that too much power was not concentrated in the hands of a small number of people, you reduce the negative impact of people in the system who lack the morality needed in our leaders, and you also create a government that is more representative of the will of the people.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My faith in the Lord Jesus Christ guides everything in my life; from my family to my veterinary practice to my community service activities. If I am fortunate enough to be elected, it will inform my service as a state representative as well. While I do not believe in using the power of government to force my beliefs on others, I do believe that if we model ourselves and our institutions on the teachings of Christ, we will leave our state and nation in a better place than we found it. As a Christian conservative, that is something that I believe God has called on us to do for the sake of our children and for generations to come.
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
In 1983, I came to Denton County with little more than the clothes that I owned and a small, hand-me-down television set. In the ensuring 32 years, my wife, Lori, and I built a veterinarian practice from the ground-up to serve more than 9,000 of our neighbors, we have raised three wonderful children, and we have knit our lives together with the families of this community; working hand-in-hand to share God’s love and protect the blessings of freedom, independence and self-reliance that He has bestowed upon us. As difficult as it is for me to toot my own horn, I sincerely believe that I am the most qualified, conservative candidate in this race. I have a strong agricultural background, over 32 years of experience as a veterinarian and small business owner, experience in real estate, and more than fifteen years in the educational system as a school board member, during which time we never raised taxes.

Additional comment from candidate:
In many ways, being a veterinarian has prepared me to be an effective legislator. My job is to assess a situation, request proper procedures to help diagnose the sickness, and develop a plan to rectify the sickness as efficiently and effectively as possible. If you think about it, this is the same process needed to reduce burdensome government regulations, grow the economy and provide a quality education for our children. We face many challenges as a state and nation, but real solutions to these issues require more than sound bite politicians who tell voters what they want to hear, but who lack the courage of conviction to make a real difference. I believe that God’s plan for my life has prepared me for this moment. So with that, I respectfully ask for your prayers, your support, and your vote in the March 1 Republican Primary election.
