Questionnaire

Please note: Responses are entered electronically by the candidate and are listed verbatim.

Congress should repeal the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).

Strongly Agree

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

The U.S. military should wait for militant Islamic groups to directly threaten our national security on our shores, rather than eradicate them now wherever they may be worldwide.

Strongly Disagree

The United States must maintain a nuclear arsenal that is safe, reliable, modern and numerically superior to those of potential adversaries.

Strongly Agree

I support legislation such as the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) that would prohibit discrimination against individuals, organizations and small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

The federal government should establish Common Core as a nationwide academic standard for high school graduation.

Strongly Disagree

I oppose the resettlement of Syrian refugees into the U.S. without proper vetting.

Strongly Agree

Current regulations on domestic oil exploration and drilling are more restrictive than are necessary.

Strongly Agree

It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health care and a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

More restrictive gun control laws are needed to protect public safety.

Strongly Disagree

The founders established pure democracy in the Constitution because they believed that it is the best form of government to ensure the safety and equitable treatment of all citizens.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property turn mankind's natural self-interest into the most productive economic system there is.

Strongly Agree

Governments should pay to develop wind and solar energy solutions until they are economically feasible.

Strongly Disagree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States.

Strongly Agree

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with public funds.

Strongly Agree

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Strongly Disagree

The United States should help defend Israel from attack by its enemies.

Strongly Agree

Planned Parenthood should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

Marijuana should be legalized and regulated like tobacco and alcohol.

Strongly Disagree

Islamic law (Sharia) does not pose a threat to the United States and its Constitution.

Strongly Disagree

Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.

God, Constitution, voters. I believe in "Natural Law" in that we are born and meant to be free, and we give some of our power to government to protect our freedoms.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

I believe life starts at conception, and that we're all made in God's image and fearfully and wonderfully made. I do believe in the principle of "double effect" meaning that we should do everything possible to save the life of the mother and preborn child. Sometimes in an effort to save the mother the preborn child cannot be saved.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

Our Founders feared the thirst for power would result in tyranny if the Constitution was not carefully crafted. That is why we are not a "pure democracy". The Founders created three equal branches of government with checks and balances to prevent any one from gaining too much power. Further, the Founders enumerated responsibilities of the Federal government with the expectation that state and local governments would provide the rest of governance. We need to embrace the 9th and 10th Amendments.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian saved by faith and His grace. My priorities in life are to be a good Christian, husband, father and citizen. I start each day by reading a chapter from the Old Testament and one from the New Testament. My favorite verses are Matthew 6:19-20, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." The verse that I loved to mediate on when I was deployed to the Middle East was Matthew 10:28 that says, "Don't fear man who can kill the body but not the soul..."

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?

Very Conservative

Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.

My parents and four grandparents were Goldwater fans and I was raised reading National Review and Human Events. I campaigned for local Republicans growing up and was a supporter of Ronald Reagan in 1976 when I was 13 years old. I was an active College Republican and interned after college with Congressman Ed Madigan. I'm a member of Heritage Foundation, and endorsed by the Concerned Women for America PAC, retired Lieutenant General Jerry Boykin, and other conservatives. I have written many editorials supporting conservative policies and candidates that are public record. I volunteer or donate to the following organizations: Assure and Essential Pregnancy Services, Good News Jail Ministry, Gideons, Youth for Christ, CRU, and am a Central Committee member of our County Republican Party.

Additional comment from candidate:

I served in the Air Force for nearly 30 years, retired as a Brigadier General, commanded five times, and deployed four times to the Middle East. I also helped standup ballistic missile defense capabilities in Israel. I want to continue defending our country but in a different way. We need to shrink the size of the Federal government, roll back regulations, flatten and simplify our taxes, defend the checks and balances of our Constitution, protect innocent life, and ensure our nation has a strong deterrence so that we can have "peace through strength." Without this kind of leadership our nation's power will be eroded. I want to ensure we strengthen our nation's liberty, prosperity and security so that our kids and grandkids enjoy the opportunities that we have enjoyed our whole lives.
