Questionnaire

Please note: Responses are entered electronically by the candidate and are listed verbatim.

1. Free enterprise and the right to private property turn mankind's natural self interest into the fairest and most productive economic system there is, and are the key to national prosperity.

Strongly Agree

2. It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health care and a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

3. The United States must maintain a nuclear arsenal that is safe, reliable, modern and numerically superior to those of potential adversaries.

Strongly Agree

4. Government should enforce laws designed to protect the border and to prevent illegal entry of persons into the country.

Strongly Agree

5. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) should be repealed by Congress.

Strongly Agree

6. Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

7. Marriage is a union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

Strongly Agree

8. Efforts to bring Islamic law (shariah) to America do not pose a threat to our country and its Constitution.

Strongly Disagree

9. Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

10. Governments should pay to develop wind and solar energy solutions when these are not economically feasible.

Strongly Disagree

11. More restrictive gun control laws are needed now to protect public safety.

Strongly Disagree

15. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?

The Founders learned from history that without checks and balances, individuals will seek to accumulate power, which leads to the subjugation of others and the denial of natural rights. Only through a carefully balanced system can we prevent the accumulation of too much power and the destructive potential that goes with it.

16. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.

1.) Repeal Obamacare and replace it with a free market solution to health care. I believe that health care costs are too high, but government interference is not the way to improve access or affordability. We should allow for the purchase of health insurance across state lines, we should institute tort reform, and we should encourage greater transparency in pricing. 2.) Reduce the debt! Since Ron Kind was elected, our national debt has more than tripled - to more than $17 trillion. That's around $55,000 for every man, woman, and child in America. We need to stop mortgaging our children's future, reform our entitlement programs, and pass a balanced budget amendment. 3.) Formulate an agricultural policy that works for everyone. The "farm bill" has many good aspects, but I believe that it has become too much of a "food bill", and not a farm bill. Agricultural policy is too intertwined with food stamps, and too often farmers are lost in the equation.

17. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?

In the Judeo-Christian tradition, it is morally acceptable to take a life in defense of one's own life. I do not believe in abortion as birth control, but it may be allowed in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. These instances are rare.

18. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.

God, Constitution, Voters, Congress, Supreme Court (the last to are equal).

19. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in God, and I seek the direction of God in my life. As the Declaration says, I believe that our unalienable rights stem from God. These are rights that should not be interfered with by individuals or governments.
