14. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?

The Founders had a strong Judeo-Christian ethic which included a belief in individual accountability, limited government with defined powers, and the separation of powers. The system was set up with checks and balances based on an appreciation for the sinful nature of man that is found in Christian faith.

15. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.

Issues arise from principles. Limit the national debt and reduce the cost of government. Without fiscal discipline, the rest of the issues will become academic in time. Government must be dedicated to facilitating the private sector, not inhibiting it. No government agent should be empowered to arbitrarily deny the freedoms stated in the Bill of Rights. This especially includes the First, Second, Fourth, and Tenth Amendments.

16. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?

In general no one shoe fits all. The default should always be for life and as a doctor I am committed to this stand. It is conceivable that some extreme circumstances might occur that could justify a termination but it would have to be extreme and unusual. Example, an ectopic pregnancy may require an emergency procedure.

17. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.

God, Constitution, Voters, Congress, Supreme Court

18. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I practice my Christian faith with my family. I believe the values found in the Founders vision of the application of these values to public life are essential to the survival of freedom and order in our form of government. When we replace a moral ethic with a fairness ethic, we are in trouble as a nation.
